Notes: First theatrical Star Wars since 2019. First live-action Disney+ spin-off film.
While no trailer is ever truly perfect, there is a lot to like in this first look at The Mandalorian & Grogu. As someone who is already completely sold on the project—I’ll be there opening day, likely in IMAX— the makers of this film are essentially preaching to the choir to me here, though I do have a few minor reservations.
Relievingly, the trailer confirms that Pedro Pascal will show his face, rather than being limited to a vocal performance, which is a huge plus. I’m also thrilled about Sigourney Weaver joining the galaxy; she is always fantastic, and I have absolute faith in Jon Favreau’s ability to translate this action from the Disney+ format to the big screen, given his proven track record with Iron Man.
I know I’m in the minority, but I genuinely loved the last season of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, so I am hoping for appearances from Mando-verse favorites like Boba Fett and Cobb Vanth. While I do have minor concerns regarding whether the story's scale justifies a full theatrical release, I am ultimately excited for another big-screen Star Wars experience. - Ray Manukay
Pros
- Pedro Pascal's face is shown (not just voice).
- Sigourney Weaver joining the cast.
- Jon Favreau's proven track record (Iron Man, Mandalorian).
- Return to theatrical Star Wars.
Cons/Reservations
- Concerns if the story scale fits a theatrical release.
- Potential comparison to the high quality of Andor.
Excitement Level
Final Verdict
Despite minor reservations regarding the story's scale and comparison to Andor, I am fully sold on this theatrical experience. With the return of Pedro Pascal's live action performance, the addition of Sigourney Weaver, and Jon Favreau at the helm, this is a must-see for me!
