"Joining the 2026 parade of reboots and sequels is the revival of the Scary Movie franchise. Leading the charge are Shawn and Marlon Wayans, alongside "final girl" parody icons Regina Hall and Anna Faris. It is a welcome return for the series, especially after the Wayans family lost control of the franchise following the second—and arguably best—installment. Based on this trailer, it appears they are embracing the "requel" formula of their primary target, Scream, by bringing back legacy characters and performers from the very first entry of the series. The results look both hilarious and nostalgic, staying true to the raunchy, boundary-pushing comedy at which the Wayans family excels. While the trailer effectively skewers several big horror films from the past few years, the real test will be whether they have a tight script to tie the gags together. Of course, a strong trailer doesn't always guarantee a quality film. This specific brand of humor is difficult to nail and isn't for everyone—as demonstrated by the mixed reception of the recent Naked Gun revival.
