Rays Reaction
"After years of the Green Lantern brand being stuck in development hell, HBO is finally giving us the gritty, grounded take these characters deserve. This is the first full trailer following an earlier teaser Trailer and this one is definitely an improvement. In this look we get a our first glimpse of the dynamic between the two lead characters. There is obviously a buddy cop vibe where the two of them are at odds. It feels like Hal Jordan is not ready to give up his mantle as the Lantern for planet Earth. John Stewart is the brash hot head who feels his time is now. It almost hearkens back to the relationship featured in the movie F1 with Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. Hopefully they will avoid the trope of the hothead refusing to take the advice from the grizzled veteran. They can hint at that type of relationship maybe through one episode. But that will get really old quick. We also get a short look at the costume. But the characters don't put them on yet. Hopefully, they will at some point. I'm also hopeful for at least some references to Peacemaker and Superman and the show doesn't remain too isolated. Although, it's been confirmed that Guy Gardner makes an appearance on the show. So the crossover is inevitable. I feel like there is a lot riding this. The show is highly anticipated especially in the wake of Peacemaker and the James Gunn directed Superman. Audiences are excited to see what's next as this DC Universe slowly reveals itself. One wonders if this version of Hal Jordan follows his one time comic book plot line where the Lantern becomes a villain. I feel like that's a little early to explore that story line. It would be nice to see the two Lanterns work together first. . Whatever happens it's finally time to see a grounded and mature version of the classic Lantern characters." - Ray Manukay
